Carolyn Day – Executive Director
Education:
Ms. Day brings to Literacy Chicago a wealth of experience not limited to a background in grant management, professional career and curriculum development for job-readiness, vocational counseling, program evaluation and partnership building. She has an Educational Psychology, M.Ed. from Loyola University; a B.S. in Communication Disorders from Lincoln University, MO.
Biography:
Ms. Day has extensive experience in progressive leadership of educational, social services and projects/program development. She has consulted in the areas of speech and language therapy, career development, counseling and grant management. Ms. Day worked with the Chicago Public School Administrative Offices of Specialized Services/High Schools Programs/Department of Education to Careers. During that time she served as the Liaison and Career Development Program Manager. In this role she was responsible for monitoring and maintaining compliance of the citywide high school Career and Technical Instructional Educational programs. Which lead to the leadership of managing the citywide elementary school Career Path Portfolio Project. She developed career awareness and exploration activities for grades K – 8 for professional school guidance counselors in 328 schools. Carolyn has a passion for and learning and is an advocate for helping people communicate effectively. She is dedicated to weakening the linguistic and cultural chains of economic challenges and the reliance upon governmental resources. She resides in Chicago and is active with professional, community and social organizations.

Education:

Biography:
Over 20 years working with Literacy Chicago’s volunteer tutoring program, Citywide, and various other philanthropic endeavors.
As long as there is a need for adults to be able to read and speak, we need to be there to support them.
Jaye Jones – Program Manager
Education:

Biography:
Volunteer at Literacy Chicago for over 6 years in the Adult Literacy Program; helped develop Reading Against the Odds, a reading discussion group for adult learners
Andrea Kelton – Lead ABE/GED Instructor
Education:
M.A. Teaching Reading, Learning Disabilities Certification
Biography:
Taught 12 years in a Michigan elementary public school as a Learning Disabilities consultant/self-contained classroom teacher. Taught Adult Basic Education at Literacy Chicago since 2005.

Marilyn Murchison – Office Manager
Biography:
Started in 2007 and has since served thousands of students as a mentor, counselor, and the face of Literacy Chicago.
