ERAC
The External Relations Advisory Committee (ERAC) was established in 2009 to support Literacy Chicago’s marketing, public relations, and design initiatives. This dynamic group of volunteer professionals who work in marketing, PR, graphic design, and web design has been a force for major positive changes within the organization. Recent successes include the development of new handouts and Trifolds, the standardization of print materials, production of new t-shirts, a complete redesign of our website, and the ongoing publication of our newsletter. ERAC meets monthly and members take on projects as their schedules allow.
As Literacy Chicago continues to rapidly grow and adapt our programs to the changing needs of our students, ERAC will play a crucial role in conveying our message outward. If you are interested in participating, contact ERAC@literacychicago.org
Associate Board
This energetic and critical pillar of Literacy Chicago’s success combines various networking and awareness-raising events with a commitment to financial support for our agency. Associate Board members engage in outreach and community involvement while planning and carrying out the bulk of our fundraising events. Activities include our annual cocktail event The Well-Read Affair, a presence at the Printers Row Lit Fest, team participation the Chinatown Dragon Boat Race for Literacy, author events, and much more.
The Associate Board maintains a powerful networking focus, having people from all different professional backgrounds and affiliations. Gaining board experience, promoting the cause of adult literacy, and meeting an incredible group of people are just a few of the reasons to join. Development Committee
The Development Committee is a group of professionals from the fundraising world, along with volunteers interested in learning about the various components of institutional support (such as grant writing and special events), meet quarterly and discuss opportunities to support Literacy Chicago by taking on projects or assignments of all sizes.
Occasionally, committee members host grant writing workshops for beginners who would like to put their writing skills to the test. Participation in this group is open to members of any LC board or committee as well as interersted volunteers from outside, and most of the tasks are accomplished through ongoing email communication.
