Jersey Boys

Join Literacy Chicago's Women's Board on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at 2:00pm for a matinee theatre performance of Jersey Boys: The Story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons - the Tony Award-winning "Best Musical of 2006".  The theatre viewing will be followed by a Champagne Reception and Dinner at the Union League Club.

For guests who are unable to attend the entire theatre and dinner event, there are Theatre-only and Dinner-only options available.  Moreover, we are pleased to offer pre-event raffle ticket purchasing online.  We look forward to seeing you at the event!

2008 Well-Read Ball

 

The Literacy Chicago Associate Board hosted its 3rd annual, 2008 Well-Read Ball on Saturday, February 9, 2008 from 6:30pm to midnight at Galleria Marchetti, 825 West Erie Street.  The evening featured cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dinner, live music and dancing, silent auction, and a program that highlighted the important service Literacy Chicago provides to address the need for literacy and adult education.

Thanks to our keynote speaker, best-selling author Scott Turow, and to our emcee, journalist and TV commentator Nancy Giles for helping make the evening another sparkling success.  And, as always, we thank our amazing Associate Board for all their hard work in organizing this gala, and for their energetic support of Literacy Chicago.

 

Literacy Chicago Open House

Literacy Chicago celebrated the launch of a new year with an informal open house that took place at our offices and instructional center on Friday, October 5th from 4:00pm - 7:00pm.  On hand were students, volunteers, supporters and staff - including our new Executive Director, Anthony J. Stoll, and new Director of Development & Marketing, Barry A. Benson.  Also present were several board members including the recently-elected Board President Shirley Evans-Wofford.

 

The Business Marketing Association's Chicago Chapter partnered with Literacy Chicago for the annual BizBash fundraising event. Guests enjoyed complimentary drinks, hors d'oeuvres, festive entertainment and a live and silent auction. Proceeds benefited BMA Chicago Chapter programs and Literacy Chicago. The event took place at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 East Washington, from 5:30-9:30 pm on Thursday, June 7, 2007.  For more information on upcoming Biz Bash events, visit www.bmachicago.org.

Associate Board - NCAA Playoff Event

And a good time was had by all. Thanks to the Associate Board for organizing the 3rd Annual Final Four Fundraiser. And thanks to Sluggers for hosting our guests. The AB event co-chairs, Valerie Khan and Kristen Kennedy also earn high marks for heading another successful event

2007 Well Read Ball

The Associate Board wishes to thank all of the sponsors, donors and guests who made this year's event a smashing success. There was serious competition for the 30 splendid silent auction items and nearly three hundred people danced the night away. As always, proceeds directly support adult education offered free of charge by Literacy Chicago. Special thank you to the event Co-Chairs, Valerie Khan and Kristin Kennedy who are already hard at work on the 2008 gala.

Leaders for Literacy Fall Luncheon featuring Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Anna Quindlen

Literacy Chicago and The Book Stall at Chestnut Court were hosts to over 250 luncheon guests at the Union League of Chicago. Author and journalist Anna Quindlen inspired us all to continue our support the important mission of Literacy Chicago. Thanks to event co-chairs Nancy Searle and Roberta Rubin for a fantastic job!

The Women's Board - "Scamalot"

The Literacy Chicago Women's Board hosted a wonderful evening of fun and frivolity on Sunday June 11th. Thanks to the generosity of our raffle and silent auction donors, The Women's Board of Literacy Chicago was able to make a significant contribution to the ongoing programs of Literacy Chicago.

On February 2, 2006, Leaders for Literacy chair Nancy Searle was joined by a host of supporters and guests in the Marshal Field's Culinary Studio for an up close and person three course demonstration and lunch prepared by Chef Charlie Trotter.
