Adult Literacy
|
Do you know someone who has a low level of literacy? They are not alone. In Chicago, approximately 30% of all adults have reading levels equivalent to those of second- to third-grade students.
They can't read this website and don't know that we can help them. Please tell them that help is on the way at Literacy Chicago! Our adult literacy program provides a safe and comfortable place for adults to learn to read. We strive to put students at ease and increase their confidence. Our teachers lead weekly classes, each with their unique style. In small-group settings, students learn how to read, understand, and analyze books, newspapers, and other written materials. |
Citizenship Classes
|
Do you want to prepare to take the citizenship test to become a US citizen?

Our classes cover every part of the citizenship exam, including the interview, civics questions, reading, and writing. They include lessons on U.S. history and civics as well as practice interviews. All of Literacy Chicago's students go to their naturalization interviews feeling relaxed and confident that they will succeed. |
Conversation Groups (ESL Practice)
Literacy Chicago offers a conversation group for individuals whose second language is English and who are not enrolled in our regular ESL classes. This class focuses on lively discussion around a myriad of subjects. You will learn to be more confident in expressing yourself in English, acquire conversational vocabulary, and have a more enjoyable experience. Groups are held in various Chicago Public Libraries in Chicago.
