Adult Literacy
Do you know someone who has a low level of literacy? They are not alone. In Chicago approximately 20% of all adults have reading levels of second to third grade.
They can't read this website and don't know that we can help them. Please tell them that help is on the way at Literacy Chicago! We understand that there is a stigma attached to not being able to read, and we treat everyone as responsible adults who have made the commitment to changing their lives! Our adult literacy program provides a safe and comfortable place for adults to learn to read. We strive to put students at ease and increase their confidence. Our teachers lead weekly classes, each with their own unique style. Everyone is welcome. In small group settings, students learn how to read, understand, and analyze books; newspapers; and other writing. Additionally, with a focus on punctuation, grammar, and spelling, our students better their writing ability. |
